Poetry for Change

But, This Year

I’m busy as a bee, can’t you see? It makes me seem important,

like sand to the sea. The busy ones are achieving, while

the rest of us, just dreaming, and time is the green stuff

in an age where love is not enough. But year after year,

rushing flower to hive; pocket full of pollen, does it make me feel alive?

This year will be different. I’ll spend the currency of time.

An hour with my mother is worth all the world’s dimes.

Never too busy to help out a friend, to walk in the woods,

to seek ’round the bend. Never too busy to sit under the sky,

watch the clouds rolling, wipe a tear from her eye.

I’m busy as a bee, it’s what we all say.

But, this year, I’m a flower. I’ll blossom and sway.

The Status Quo

Look at what we’ve become:
a world of hate, ignorance, guns.
Living in lockdown; living in fear,
and old man politics,
‘just give us a year.’
He texted his Mommy.
 “I’m gonna die.”
She could do nothing,
nor could you or I.
We’re helpless because of
some old guy’s vote
dusty laws by quill
words learned by rote.
So we memorialize
analyze
hashtag the woe
then go back to our lives:
the status quo.

2014 in Review: A Strangely, Incredibly Good Year!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for my blog. I am so pleased with the 12,000 views, because I was extremely busy doing the Strangely, Incredibly Good book launch, readings, and book signings, and was not such a busy blogger this year! I’m thrilled you stopped by Where the Butterflies Go. Thanks to all who followed me and made comments. You made me remember how much I love blogging, and that I should focus more energy on it in 2015.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 12,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
