Thank You Canada!

I’m starting to think hard work DOES eventually pay off.

Today, Where the Butterflies Go hit #1 on Kindle > Poetry on Amazon.ca, and Carry On Dancing hit #2!

The books are also doing well in ‘Books’ (paperback) – currently #23 and 24 in Canadian Poetry. The Friends I’ve Never Met hit a high of #39 in Fiction & Lit> Women> Single Women (I haven’t looked at it again since yesterday – at a certain point as an author you just stop looking! Please let me know if it goes up again! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

You guys are amazing! Thanks for reading & sharing with others about my poetry & my rom-com screenplay.

If you haven’t bought a Kindle copy of any of my 3 poetry collections yet, today or tomorrow would be the perfect day – help me stay ahead of Leonard Cohen! ha ha ha ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks so much for buying CANADIAN books!

And yes, I realize after I post this post, they could fall to 800,000 in books. Such is the way of Amazon rankings and the life of an unknown author! But at this moment, I’m so happy, grateful, and wanted to thank you all so much.

Kim Larocque Celebrates Small Publishers/Indie Writers with Author of the Year Award

Writer-interviewer Kim Larocque of Muse in the Valley has announced her Author of the Year 2012 nominees, and I’m so touched to be among the 12 talented nominees.

Please go vote for any of the authors in the list, if you’ve read them: no account or login required to vote! It’s a fantastic award that celebrates indie publishers, indie writing and indie writers.

Kim writes, “Muse In The Valley was born asโ€bestisyettocomeโ€ a quiet journey into my thoughts and aspirations. ย A year later, when I changed the name to Muse In The Valley, I started writing about dreams and how they can assist us into finding the messages our soul is trying to give us. ย I had no clue then, nor did I ask the Universe to become a Literary Blogger, yet I did, and I am immersed in a world of literature. ย I have met the most amazing poets, indie writers, novelists, childrenโ€™s book writers and more, thus, opening up doors to new contacts, new friendships and new BOOKS!!”

I agree with Kim – 2012 has been a surprising, thrilling year for me as an author, and I want to thank all of you for being a part of it!

Best always,

Heather

Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Hey gang. Great news: Until Dec. 31, 2012, Where the Butterflies Go (my first poetry collection) and The Friends I’ve Never Met (my most recent work ) will be reduced to $1.99 on Kindle.
That means I make a little less than $1 a book – but instead of donating half proceeds as I have been doing, Graceful Publications will donate ALL proceeds from sales of these two books, as well as proceeds from sales of my 2nd collection, LEAP -to Hearts for Change – an incredible, hardworking Canadian charity that helps orphaned and needy children in Kenya, and is working toward helping needy Canadian children in the near future.
My books are available in several countries now on Kindle, and it only takes seconds to download an ebook. IMAGINE the differences we could make in these childrens’ lives if even just 100 of you buy copies!
New pencils. New books. School fees! Please share this note and consider giving $1 to a great cause.
โ™ฅ โ™ฅ โ™ฅ (P.S. Sales from Kobo, Nook, and iBooks will count too, but I can’t reduce the book prices quickly enough on these systems- but if you buy them there in this time period I will donate ๐Ÿ™‚ )
Merry Christmas everyone,
Heather xx

Holiday Checklist

from Where the Butterflies Go

This Christmas, I am telling my inner Supermom to leave the building.

In the pre-Christmas chaos, I will remember to breathe while juggling the buying flying shopping shipping put-it-on-plastic happy hoopla pot luck and good luck trying to squeeze into last yearโ€™s little black dress.

Multi-tasking to the point of burn out will no longer be my middle name. I will not apologize or feel inferior if the cards are late or the presents arenโ€™t perfectly gift-wrapped or the kids look like baboons in the family photo.

This Christmas, I wonโ€™t trip over my words when I start to say Merry Christmas to someone celebrating Hanukkah. Screw political correctness. This year I will remember whatโ€™s truly important: opening a door for a senior, giving food and clothes to the homeless, teaching the children itโ€™s not all about that guy in the red suit.

This Christmas I will put on John and Yokoโ€™s Happy Christmas (War Is Over)โ€”and listen.

No. Really, truly listen.

Another year over, and what have I done? …And so happy Christmas, for black and for white, for the yellow and red ones, letโ€™s stop all the fight.

This Christmas, I will be still. Between the turkey and the silly paper hats; between the wine and the goodnight kisses, I will find my true North star, make a wish for the world and count my blessingsโ€”every one.

Stop and smell the...Christmas tree! Happy holidays and thanks so much for reading. xx
